The first issue to not totally blow me away. It’s still excellent, but feels like it was written to end a limited series.

Not where I expected Dysart to take the plot, not this soon. The unexpected turn is in the issue’s favor. Superior work.
Unknown Soldier 4
April 26th, 2009 - Respond
It seems like an all-action issue, but it’s not. It is deceptive how much work Dysart gets done in during the first half.
Unknown Soldier 3
April 25th, 2009 - Respond
Things start to develop. Dysart’s pace is great. He tells his story; makes social commentary (without drawing attention).
Unknown Soldier 2
April 25th, 2009 - Respond
Amazing second issue–how Dysart manages to tell this one in a big two comic book is beyond me. It is a devastating read.
Unknown Soldier 1

After hearing so much about the book, how good it is, I thought it couldn’t live up. Silly me. It excels any expectation.
Violent Messiahs 8

Bride of Frankenstein references. It lessens work, the painfully obvious reference. The art confused the heck out of me.
Violent Messiahs 7

And this issue does a Jesus on the cross reference. Seriously, given the pacing and the art, I do not care what goes on.
Violent Messiahs 6

Good grief, does it really rip off a line from Alien 4? Still, it is an okay action issue. Even if the pacing is screwy.
Violent Messiahs 5
December 30th, 2008 - Respond
Essentially a filler issue. It asks for a lot of patience, something it doesn’t earn. But, I can think of a good moment.
Violent Messiahs 4
December 28th, 2008 - Respond
Boo! An all-action issue. Mostly, anyway. Art gets better at the end; Dysart introduces a new character. But it is blah.
Violent Messiahs 3
December 28th, 2008 - Respond
And it’s silly again. The visual style–the costumes–it’s like 1990s Image. The pace’s way too quick. Needs to breathe.
Violent Messiahs 2
December 28th, 2008 - Respond
Much better. Even with clichéd character relationships, Dysart’s dialogue prevails. The art’s too slick, too gloom-free.
Violent Messiahs 1
December 28th, 2008 - Respond
Is it supposed to feel like the introduction to a video game? Hackneyed details; Dysart comes through in smaller scenes.

Lead story, cute story and last story are weak–last one’s an ad. Dysart’s is an awesome pseudo(?) auto-bio.
